The Natural Theatre Company 2025

Surprising Performances in Surprising Places.

About Us

Often copied, but never bettered… We are one of the longest running immersive theatre companies in the world at 56 years old!

We perform with people, not at them.

We work closely with your organisation to create exciting and relevant performance for your event or venue. You book us, and we create imaginative ideas for you.

Founded in 1969, The Natural Theatre Company (as Bath Arts Workshop)  created festivals, “happenings “, participatory shows, and hilarious walkabout scenarios.

During the 80s and 90s the Company travelled all over the world with Classic Walkabout and Indoor Shows.

In 2025 we are busy creating an even broader range of performances and participation events.

Walkabout

We produce a host of iconic, interactive and immersive walkabout performances.

We perform at festivals, private parties, conferences, expos and corporate events.

Classics like Coneheads, Flowerpots, Suitcases, Nudes, National No Smiling Day, are still offered alongside our hugely popular newer characters such as the Cabin Crew, High Street Bowls, Pigeon Poo People, Village Fete Judges & Ghosts of Festivals Past.

We often create completely new scenarios for clients.

Historical & Heritage

We are experts at immersive historical interpretation.  The skills have been honed through our 14 year residency at The Roman Baths.  We have had other seasonal residencies at Tyntesfield House, The London Transport Museum and Cheddar Caves.

The National Heritage Lottery fund has awarded us two major grants to create historical participation events in local communities.  Through these projects we have worked with Bath Preservation Trust, Bristol Aerospace Museum and others.

We cover many time periods from Romans to very recent history.

Hear from our clients:

Haggis Mcleod, Glastonbury Festival

The Natural Theatre Company have been part of Glastonbury Festival for nearly 40 years. At the forefront of modern street theatre not only at Glastonbury, but throughout the known world.  NTC “wave the rules” wherever they appear. Challenging audiences to question what they are witnessing, and often, what they are confronted with, NTC have long been a no brainer booking for Glastonbury: local, global and above all, top class.

Georgia Delve, Festival director at Jane Austen Festival

“We love how Natural Theatre takes all-things Austen out and about to the streets of Bath, and to the unsuspecting general public. It brings a different edge to our Festival programme, and a smile to everyone’s face”.

Paul, long-standing Festival steward at Jane Austen Festival

Such a charming and immersive experience! It’s a wonderful blend of historic storytelling, humour, and improvised friendly interactions with the public that remains one of my best Festival memories!”

Pernilla, Programming Producer/ Project Manager – Gothenburg Dance & Theatre Festival

It was a true pleasure to have the Natural Theatre Company perform at the Gothenburg Dance & Theatre Festival, where they showcased four lovely walkabouts: The Nudes, The Waiters, The Pigeon Poo People, and The Flower Pots. Each performance was unique, engaging, and filled with the kind of artistry that brings theatre to life in a way that makes it accessible for all kind of people.
The Natural Theatre Company is incredibly professional and an absolute joy to collaborate with. Their team is not only skilled but also incredibly easy and pleasant to work with, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Their ability to interact with audiences in such a fun and inviting way creates an atmosphere of warmth and connection, turning every show into a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Through their walkabouts, they spread an infectious sense of joy and happiness, leaving a lasting positive impact on the city of Gothenburg. The energy they bring is truly unmatched, and we are grateful for the magic they brought to our festival.

Amanda Hart, Roman Baths and Pump Room Manager

A visit to the Roman Baths is not complete without the Romano-British people portrayed by the amazingly talented actors from the Natural Theatre Company. As the Roman Baths Manager, responsible for interpretation and engagement, I have been working with the company for 3 years now supporting them to create memorable experiences for our visitors. The costumed actors bring ancient Roman Britain to life with an incredible level of detail and authenticity, captivating visitors of all ages. Their engaging storytelling transport you back in time, making history both entertaining and educational. The dedication and passion of the actors shine through in every interaction, creating a truly immersive and enjoyable experience. This exceptional commitment to quality and historical accuracy makes the Natural Theatre Company a standout in the world of visitor attractions, deserving of the highest recognition.

Dan Colman (Producer) from Dan Colman Creative Limited (The Truth About Harry Beck)

We were delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Natural Theatre Company and Andy Burden on The Truth About Harry Beck. The Naturals were a great team, easy to work with and producing really high-quality work, celebrated by the audience, the Press and the London Transport Museum alike. We were really pleased with our first collaboration and look forward to future work together!

Joanna Kelly from LSD Productions (Spring Fayre & Autumn Fayre, Bath)

The Bath Natural Theatre Company was absolutely amazing at our 2024 events! It was amazing to have such talented performers who were local; they really got what Bath is all about. They went above and beyond, getting the crowd super involved and bringing so much energy to the events. One of our events was during a heatwave, and they were still so lively and entertaining; it was incredible! We loved having them, and we can’t wait to book them for more of our Bath events in the future!
